Modhera Sun Temple in gujarat

Modhera Sun Temple Stony poetry

Sun Temple is As one traverses the length and breadth of Gujarat, one constantly stumbles across architectural legacies of the' Solanki' rule.

Sun Temple with Vav

The Modhera Sun Temple is a Hindu temple located in the Indian state of Gujarat. It was built in the 11th century CE during the reign of the Solanki dynasty.

The temple is dedicated to the sun god Surya and is one of the few surviving sun temples in India. The temple was built by King Bhima I of the Solanki dynasty in 1026 CE. The temple was designed in such a way that the first rays of the sun would fall on the image of Surya at the time of the equinoxes.

The temple complex consists of a main temple, a Sabha Mandap (assembly hall), and a Surya Kund (a stepped tank). The main temple has three components - the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum), the Mandapa (hall) and the Surya Shikhar (tower). The temple is decorated with intricate carvings depicting various Hindu deities and scenes from Hindu mythology.

The Sabha Mandap is an open pavilion with 52 intricately carved pillars. The Surya Kund is a stepped tank with numerous miniature shrines and sculptures. The tank was designed to be used for ritual bathing before offering prayers to the sun god.

The Modhera Sun Temple is a significant example of Solanki architecture and is a popular tourist destination in Gujarat. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Hindu temple architecture in India.
